I found a phone at the weekend but it wouldnt turn on. I charged it yesterday and it says inactive SIM. This therefore means its been reported lost and blocked.

On the phone was a few low quality pictures, a bit of porn and some music. I therefore couldnt send it back to anyone as it had no numbers (presumably on the sim that was blocked) and no address or anything written on it. I did a factory reset on the phone so it cleared the junk off it.

I am now stuck with a phone thats no use whatsoever. (Inactive SIM) Is there anything I can do with it?

you could have a look at the sim for brand and drop it in to whatever shop is relevant if you want to get it back to the owner

If you're not bothered the alternatives are obvious I imagine.

Threw the sim away as its no use. How does that envirophone work if the phones been blocked?

Is there no way to get rid of the Inactive sim thing?

then bin it...

Its no more then a piece of plastic now that its been blocked, you have tried to find the owners details but had no luck not much else to do really.

Travelling 80km to where i found it to then hand it in to police who have no idea of whos phone it is, is pretty pointless.

Incorrect!
If handed in to police (at any police station) the IMEI can be checked on a national database and it may show the owner if it's been registered. So technically it's still theft by finding as you're still able to take reasonable steps in order to locate the owner (by nipping in to your local nick.)
