What to do with this? Plastering

Okay, so my builders finished the extension and stuck the return in to the tile of the kitchen window without removing the tiles first. Lazy I know, but of course made things slightly difficult. I bought some of the same tiles from wickes to plug the gap but they are a different white, so that's not an option.

I have taken things in to my own hands as they seem pretty incompetent in solving it. My idea was to remove the wall of tiles down to splashback height like the rest of the room. I've now got a lot of good full white tiles which blend in with the rest.

I obviously need the above plastered though and want the cheapest route as I'm wiped out of cash and still have a patio to lay.

I've had one plasterer quote £140 for a bonding coat to bring it up level with the rest of the plaster, then coming back 2 days later for the finishing coat.

My idea was more like screwing some 9.5mm board cut to shape over the top and then skimming that.

Any ideas?

Nothing wrong with either your suggestion or the plasterers price won't differ much the time and skill is all in the skim.
