Right now u can see in my sig that my CPU is old and i want to upgrade quick!

but i dont know wat to go for..

do i go with the simple option of just plugging in a Phenom II 940 BE which is the best CPU my mobo can take.

Or do i go intel get a second hand Q6600/E8400 which will need a new mobo for which i can decide between the Foxconn BlackOps (X48) or Asus P5Q deluxe (P45)? difference?

as i want to upgrade for around 200 quid. Or is there anything coming out soon cheap enough for this. I am going to get more RAM regardless of the option so that doesnt need to be in the budget.

any help will be appriciated my x2 just doesnt cut it anymore!

thanks

Which motherboard to you have? Your sig says DS3 but I'm not aware of an AM2+ based one?

The Phenom II CPUs are great processors and a massive upgrade from your current CPU, provided your motherboard supports it I think Phenom II 940 / 955 is going to be your best option :)

Getting the Phenom II would be the cheaper option.

Rather than splashing out on a new mobo and cpu,But having said that i always used to be an amd buff till i built an intel sytem up using the p5q3 deluxe mobo and the e8500.

I manily built it for gaming and it has been spot on ever since i put it together :)

Vote here for Phenom if your board supports it.

I think your priorities after replacing the CPU are going to be graphics and getting up to 4GB of RAM.

Get an am3 phenom as it will allow you an upgrade path ie new mobo & ram.

I went from a 4200+ to a 720 on one of my pcs & the difference is night & day.

Also what model is your motherboard?

motherboard is a GA-MA770-DS3 and its Rev.1 its AM2+ but only supports upto the 940 but doens support some of the new duals either.

and Namak I dont see why I shud upgrade my graphics after the CPU surely the 280 doesnt need upgrading just yet?

Yes your right it does not support AM3 CPUs... which is odd... anyway I would go with the Phenom II 940, its a great CPU :)

Also upgrade to 4GB of Ram & a 64bit OS :)

Phenom II is really good VFM. However, I would wait for a couple of weeks and see what happens with Intel's i5. At the least it might shake up the market and get some prices falling.
