Right, i think its time for me to get a quad cpu but i'm not sure what to go for, this is my mobo http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2874 which is am3 ready, but to run a am3 quad i need to flash the bios, mine is currently version FA.

Now, if i were to get a quad i'd need to download the right bios version from here http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2874&ver= but i'm not sure how to do it?

Do i just put the quad cpu in and run the bios download when i'm in window or is there another way. Also what can go wrong.

Another alternative is to get a cheap phenom 1 quad(9850/9750) which will cut out the messing and will work straight away.

cheers.

you flash the new bios with the existing/working system you are using now.

when it is successfully done, you turn of the pc, pop out the old cpu, put the new one in, and refit the heatsink(with new application of thermal paste), switch on and you should then be enjoying a quad core cpu.

the bios has to be flashed before you fit the new cpu, as it may not successfully boot up without it, to be able to do the update
