General hardware advice to be honest.. I love my build although its very outdated it does its job okay. I have a laptop which unfortunately outperforms it so i use it more. I have about 500 pounds to spend but im not sure if to sell my laptop and get a new one with the money plus the 500. Or sell or salvage what i can off my computer and upgrade it.

This may be more biased towards a new build or upgrade but here is what i have..

Laptop: Acer aspire 5552
SSD 64GB bootdrive and 640GB Data drive in ODD bay
8GB Ram upgrade

Computer:
AMD Phenom x3 2.3GHZ
2GB RAM
9500GT Passive 512mb
CM 690 II Case
CM Silent Pro M600 PSU
64GB SSD
320GB Data drive

I play things like. Battlefield, Call of duty, WoW, Guildwars, a lot of steam games (older ones so don't require much)

Advice, Opinions?

I'd spend the 500 on desktop gear.
Z77 board, i5-3570k, 8gb of lets say 1600mhz RAM, and a beefy GPU with what money you have left over!
Keep the case and PSU, big enough!

I would sell off the old parts and use the £500 to get a new cpu, motherboard, ram and gpu.

Maybe something like this
YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795F3G2M) with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs & 20% off MOH Warfighter PC Games £229.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99

If that powersupply can still handle it. (you get free shipping aswell so it will only be £510 and i'm sure you will get atleast £10 for the old parts)

Wouldnt be needing a new PSU, Its brand new about 3 months old.. I was going to do a new build but didnt and just ended up quietening my build i have now.

Is a prodigy build a viable idea at this price range? I know id waste a case but i love the size of it and quality of bitfenix products is good

Lol very.. Prodigy build if anyone can do it?
I know its room for expansion is none really but im not fussed. It would be nice for LAN and general portability
