I've recently bought a D3300 body and paired it with a 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6 and I was just starting to get used to it.
But I managed to get a 35mm 1.8 prime lens for a good price.
Now the question is, what do I do with the 18-105mm?

Do I keep it as a general purpose lens or swap it for soemthing like a 55-200/70-300?

Another option I guess would be just to sell the 18-105mm and stick with the 35mm prime.

Need opinions guys.

why don't you just keep it until you know what you want to do.

No point selling and not replacing it, 35mm is great but don't limit yourself.

If you find that in a few months you've barely used it or it doesn't have the reach then swap it for something else :)

as stated above keep it for now, if it hardly ever comes out of the bag then sell it in a few months, this has always been my approach with lenses although I do keep a couple I rarely use my 85mm is staying because I love the results and I'm sure one day I'll use it more and my 70-210mm f4 is staying as it is worthless but offers me a short telephoto option for the few occasions I need it.

Thanks chaps.

I think I'll go with what you suggested.

I don't see the prices of lenses dropping so much with age, unlike PC components

I'll see if I take more landscapes or wildlife photos and go from there.

Thanks again.

Keep it, totally different lenses. If you could only keep one I would keep the 18-105mm, much more useful.
