What to expect?

Ok, I'm on PS3 number 3 now, after my 120 gig slim decided not to read any discs :( So I replaced it with a new 160 gig slim, but wondered what to do with the 120?

The console is just over 2 years old, and I still have the box and receipt from the electrical retailer, so I was thinking of taking it back under SoGA... anyone done the same? What am I likely to expect and or be entitled to once I advise them that its not me who has to go to Sony, but them? :d

The console is over 12 months old, they don't have to do anything, even if they do agree to anything they will just tell you that they will send it back to Sony who will then bill you for any repairs

ouch. you are out of warranty and Sony will quote you over £100 to fix it and a 3 months warranty for the repair :(

I wonder if the Slims also suffer from the similar laser issues the Phat did? the Phats started showing laser issues 2-3 years after launch, now the Slims are entering that time frame

But I thought that SoGA covers you for 6 years, in fact, I'm certain it does. So why after 12 months would they be able to affectively wash their hands of any responsibility

Surely a £250 console should last a lot longer than two years (just going by the fact 'retro' consoles are still going), why is it that I should have to stump up the costs? I'm not arguing with you, please don’t get me wrong, but it seems that with this current ‘next gen’ people are being shunned with their faults and told to either contact the manufacturer directly or pay for repairs.

Just doing a little more digging, I actually found a thread from OcUK here, which I am in the process of reading, along with this.

I might call them shortly to discuss it, the thing is, I’ve already replaced the console, so whatever result I get will be unexpected – but if I am legally covered for a repair or replacement (for free or a discounted rate) then I may as well...
