Been on the road for about a year now running a Honda CBR and it would be nice to start driving.

I can't drive legally but that shouldn't be the issue (learning to) but I just want to have a look at cars and see what I can get.

I never like the idea of buying second hand so I want new but I'm not really sure what car/how much is actually worth spending.

anyone got any ideas? :)

I've never got this one. Why, when you can get a better car (or even the same car) for a lot less. You can still buy a used car that will be under manufacturers warranty, so if anything goes wrong it can go back to the dealers.

Buy a small, cheap second-hand car. Enjoy it for what it is, and when you get fed up with it you can start moving up.

Driving on your own is daunting enough at first, let alone worrying about not damaging a brand new car.

I tried to dissuade her not to buy a brand new one :(

I suggested spending a grand on one, as opposed to £8k, so you don't cry too much if you clip a pillar in a car park etc. but she "didn't want a car that anyone else had driven".

I don't understand sometimes. :(

hmmm... interesting one, I can only echo that IMO it isn't a great idea. I got off lightly compared to most of my friends in their first year of driving by only scraping my bumper / rear wing against a brick wall :o Not a problem on my old banger but I'd have been cheesed off on a car with some value.

Anyway that aside- I would personally be after something cheap, low running costs, desirable (relatively speaking) to a younger driver... Therefore I'd be looking at something from the Fiat range. 500 is a funky little thing but I think I would be looking more towards a Grande Punto GP.

what you're all saying is based on money.

I want to know how much I need to spend so it's all relative really

What you are askig is all based on money.
Here's a tip; unless you or your parents are loaded stop day dreaming.
Use common sense, pick a car you like the look of, since you are asking how much it'll cost I' l presume you have no care how well a car drives and are in the belif that more money = better! Then work out how much that car will cost an ask local driving schools how much they recon lessons will be. Work out how much petrol and insurance will be cost, maintance. And finally;
Driving with rose tinted glasses is not a good idea.
