What to get to replace my HG281D?

It really depends on your budget size, monitor usage and size wanted.

If you could provide some more info, you'll get better advice.

I upgraded from a 28" Hanns-G to a 27" Hazro HZ27WC, and at the moment that's just within your £400 budget.

The Hazro monitors aren't without their issues and limitations (see the threads here), but with the higher resolution and IPS panel the difference in image quality is massive.

I find the Hazro display much noisier than the Hanns-G, especially when displaying certain content (e.g. a lot of white, or parallel horizontal lines), but not everyone has the same problem. Whether you'd notice or bother depends on your tolerance for noise and what else you've got running in the room.

Other than that, it's a major upgrade over a mediocre TN panel like the Hanns-G in every way (I suppose I'd rather it was 16:10 rather than 16:9, but that's just nitpicking).
