My brother had £600 pound to spend. He needs a case, cpu, mobo, memory and cooler. Hes looking at the i7 2600 cpu's. can someone please tell me what he can get best for that money. Hes looking at phantom case, which i really dont like myself, but its not for me. And i think he wants 12 gig ram and asus motherboard. I know little about the new chipsets as im upgrading myself shortly to a newer i7 too.

thanks for advice guys

What is he going to use it for?

Z68 is indeed the best option here, because as far as I can see there is no dedicated graphics card - Z68 allows overclocking and use of the integrated CPU whilst also bringing several more useful additions into the fold.

Stulid's spec looks good to me, even if I'm not a fan of the case :p

Just wondering as the Raven 2 used to be the benchmark case for cooling. Seems to be near identical at stock config. I'd go for the cheaper Raven 2 :p

Also Stulid, that's Han Chinese, not Japanese

Ok guys thanks for all your advice, ive just got back online to see. He will be using it for gaming and it will be overclocked so a good cooler is defo needed. Stulid ill show my brother your specs when i see him tonight. cheers mate

More than enough :)

What's the uses?

Could save him a few quid by going with i5 2500k if it's gaming - no games make use of HyperThreading so there's no advantage in the i7

Ok how about this.

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £227.99
