What to get...

For christmas my parents have decided to get me a one off big present due to various reasons and I'm left in a bit of a pickle as to what I should do. I have no idea as such what to spend it on. I am almost 100x certain that I want to spend it on a new lens for my 550d.

My current kit consists of,

Canon 550D with Case
Canon EF-S 18-55 mm f3.5-5.6 IS
Canon EF-S 55-250 mm f4-5.6 IS + Hoya UV Filter
Canon EF 50 mm f1.8 II (not actually in hand but this is coming form someone else for xmas).

So my question is, what lens would be best to buy to maybe fill in the gaps or increase the capability of the gear I have, whilst keeping to a budget of £300 to £400 (there might be a possibility of me adding my own monies so might stretch up to £500).

My current interests consist of,

Taking wildlife photos
Taking landscape photos
Taking portraits (not taken any portraits as of yet, but this is something I am thinking of).

My thoughts are the 70-200 mm F4 L as I can do some portraiture with the nifty fifty and then have a nice telephoto with macro possibilities.

Any suggestions welcome. (p.s. Originally I said I'm 100% certain I want a lens, however I have toyed with the idea of a flash, but not sure it that is a wise move considering I'm not fully into portrait work).

Thank you

 Im not the god of photography but even I know that you cant really use a 70-200 as macro, you need fixed lens or at the very least an extension tube.
to be honest i would look at upgrading the 18-55 to a 17-50 tamron or something, or get a flash?

probably flash, if you want to start with portrait stuff, apart fromthe 50mm that you might be getting the rest are pretty slow espeically at the long end. Even if you start with a YN 565 flash wich has all the basic stuff you will need and will only set you back just over £100 of an auction site.
The rest you could put towards a 2nd hand 17-50 non VC tamron lens which has good reviews

Yes, my mistake. I had read the minimum focusing distances wrong for respective macro lenses (AS a scientist, I really shouldn't mix up mm and cm!). :p

Thanks for the advice on the flash... Bee toying with the idea for a while. I'll have a more in-depth look at this

I've recently bought a Yongnuo YN-565EX flash and it's brilliant. The portrait shots I'm getting are ten times better.

Oh and yeah it's far from a macro lens lol
It's very sharp but you only have 200mm and closest focus distance is 1.2 meters, don't get me wrong I do use It for close ups where I can but if your looking for a macro lens then best to get a dedicted macro lens, plenty about for the price of the f/4L
