Hi all, i'm new on here and have about £180 max to spend on a graphic card. What would be the best for my money and should i go Nvidia or AMD.

Mobo is ASRock N68-VS3 FX with a FX6100 and graphic card hd5450 and Antec VP450P psu.

Thanks in advance for taking time to read this and for any suggestions.

Play Cs source, Batman Arkham City, any GTA and just bought the humble bundle with Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Crysis 2 Maximum Edition, Mirror’s Edge, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3

These games should be mostly ok with your CPU then.

The 7950 is the best call for £180. But if you can push it up a little, the 7950 Twin Frozr has a better cooler. Both should come with 3-4 games.

Yes, you'd have to go to £198 to get the Asus 670, which won't perform any better than the MSI 7950 Twin Frozr at £190, or the other MSI at £176.

(Also the 7950 has a better memory spec and has more free games)

I am not too sure about that. Other than BF3 and may be Crysis 2, the rest of the games uses 4 cores or less. Unless OP is gonna massively overclock his CPU, the FX6100 at 3.60GHz would be slower than the Phenom II X4 955BE at 3.20GHz.

Yeah, the 6100 is a weak processor, but coming from a 5450 the 7950 is going to give a huge boost in all games, especially ones like those you mention. I expect Dead Space and Dead Space 3 too, they're not CPU heavy.

Thanks, if I were to upgrade the cpu as well to say AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz would i see much of an improvement?

Cant help thinking that people only go for the 7950 just for the free games, I know it's a temptation to draw you into buying the card.

I looked at the Asus GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card mainly because it was around my budget. I dont know lol, its a right minefield.

The 660 isn't a very good option. If you want to spend less there's the 7870 at £150.

People would still recommend the 7950 above a 670 without the free games.

Would they ?

The games the op has listed ( nearly all ) run better on the 670.

Thats not to say when the new consoles hit and we get bodged up games that the AMD 7950 will be more "future proof" we wont know for sure until the consoles come out though.

What about the noisy fans on the 7950's how noisy are they really. read a few stories about fans getting quite loud when gaming.

Did I say 'everyone'? I don't think I did.
