im getting a new Hi Fi system soon, and im going to be hooking it up to the comp, but i like my sound quality and i dont think on board will do. im looking to spend up to 75 on a sound card, i was looking at the creative x-fi's but i dont know what to go for as there are 3 similar ones.

what should i go for?

Adam.

Most of the cheap X-Fi's aren't real X-Fi's anyway.
I'd say the ASUS or a second hand X-Fi (real one)

The Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music Soundcard SB0460 used to be on sale at OCUK for £45 odd and wasn't bad cards at all.
These can be found second hand, and it's fully supported in Vista.

Got an x-fi extreme gamer and im happy with it, but im no audiophile! Agree with above the xonar seems to be the card of choice these days.

only the extreme audio isnt a 'real' x-fi.

xonar dx > *. not because its the best, but because its so close to the d2 and d2x in performance that you wont hear it and its a LOT cheaper. ite the best value for money soundcard out there.

....if you have a pci-e slot of course.

So why did they stop making the X-Fi Xtreme Music Soundcard SB0460?
I bought that when it was fairly new, and it was £45 odd I think.

I like that card as it does have What U hear in XP and Vista and it something I use.
When I asked Creative what cards do they sell now that has these features this was answer.

Both the X-Fi Platinum and Fatal1ty Champion Series have the "What U Hear" recording option in Vista or XP environment. There shouldn't be any difference in music production as both cards uses the same chipset. If you are into music production, I would suggest taking a look at the EMU systems too.

Now thats a big price hike for one feature that used to be standard.

Now its been said that this feature has been disabled to stop recording but never confirmed.
