What to improve my download speeds

I've got a Virgin 200MBps internet connection with their homehub 3. However I am on the far side of the house and I get spotty wifi using normal/cheapo wifi dongles (which then died). So then I bought homeplugs but it looks like the house wiring is not great as my download speed in Steam seems to fluctuate between 5 and 11 MBps and my room seems to share that speed when I have two PCs set up (which is all the time) When I have my steamdeck in the lounge next to the router it's more like 33MBps downloads.

Please spec me either a router or a wifi extender, plus a wifi dongle (PCIe or USB) that will improve my speeds.

I play quite a bit of COD MW2 so it would be good if I did not introduce a bunch of latency too if possible.

Thanks

Cable it, and you'll get full speed all of the time. It's often far easier than you might think.

You will get minimal improvements replacing the router, as it'll likely be in the worse position possible for full house coverage. Consider cabling to the loft and placing a wireless access point upstairs on the ceiling, this will likely cover most of the house. Or failing that, get a decent mesh system, but, try and cable the nodes and the majority of them use bandwidth just to talk to one another.

As above, anything less than a physical cat5e or better cable run is a compromise. That said, I can pull 700mbit between Deco x20 nodes reliably between floors (yet to test the x50’s), but I strongly suggest wired is the better option as it will do gigabit and multi gigabit speeds all day, every day.

You could try the mesh system first if you can't easily run a cable. Some will have ethernet backhaul so in case you do have to end up needing to run a wire then you can reuse them for that.
