As title, just installed vista on my laptop, have kasperski on there at the moment, any other security essentials I need? Peer Guardian 2 for vista is STILL not out yet , also have spyware blaster and adaware on there at the moment 2

Don't really need spyware/ad-aware as Windows Defender does it.

For me I have Nero, DVD Playing Software and games. That's about it at the moment.

Little bit paranoid are we!? TBH as long as you're careful and don't go accepting everything you don't really need to run anything but windows defender :)

Don''t need to be paranoid to use those apps.

Adaware finds tracking cookies and browser stuff Spybot does not and vice versa so it's best to use them both weekly - AVG or AVAST are best used as resident scanners in low priority mode to keep CPU resources at the optimum.

Everything else is common sense really.

totally agree

ad-aware and spybot complement each other nicely, free AVG does a sterling job and the free commodo firewall is very powerful. none costing you a penny, but all great with no system slow down which the bigger costly apps suffer from

turn off the windows defender constant file scanning, it slows down your pc quite a bit (i like the scanner itself though)

Rubbish - Windows Defender does the job nicely.
Running my Vista install as it was back in December and its still clean as a whistle running only Defender & NOD32.

Yea Windows Defender works great

I found the answer to my own question. :p

Comodo Forums said:
1. Currently Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4 does not support any version of Windows Vista and does not support any version of Windows that is 64 bit.

2. Windows Vista and Windows 64 bit compatibility will be added in the next version of Comodo Firewall (version 3.0.x.x).

Sadly AdAware and others take standard cookies to be Ad (basically giving you a false positive).

I've known it to pick up cookies from Intranets, etc.

For proper adware (i.e. when you run internet explorer you get 20 pop ups) then Windows Defender is more than adequate. Hell I didn't even have AV installed until yesterday after three months of running Vista (and that was only because a friend asked me to scan a file for him).
