Hey all,

As I'll be looking at a subaru impreza as my next proper car (going to be driving a heap whilst i save), would like to know what I should really be looking for when looking at one of these. Yesturday I was bored so I went for a test drive in a Turbo 2000 and absolutely loved it.

So I'd like to know what should I be looking for, what should I look out for.

And before any questions start I've still got the astra. :p

Thanks all :)

You're 18 aren't you?

And you want to insure an Impreza?

Yeah, ok... good luck with that one :p

who says im buying it tomorrow? and i've gotten quotes if i wanted to insure it now :p now answer the original question! ;)

I would sort out the Astra issue plus a bit more before you even consider buying something like an Impreza.

Is this thread a joke?

I'm sorting out the astra issue, and I'm going to be driving the biggest piece of crap possible whilst i save for an impreza. so no this thread is not a joke.

when are you looking to buy?

probably going to be around march time....But thats a hazardous guess. its going to be after christmas is all I know, but as you all know very well, i no sod all when it comes to buying a car, so I'd like to know what I should be looking for etc.

How have you found insurance. My 2.0 Ghia X was over £2k when I was your age (You have 0ncb?).

I live in a nice area too with big expensive houses. My postcode is shared with scummsville a few miles away though which I think has a lot to do with it.

When he's 30....

What kind of quotes have you been getting?

at the minute about £3k - but not going to be buying till next year.

Original question...anyone?

Just given your current job & astra situation. You havent got job security, you want to spend money on a car that is going to be expensive to maintain, to insure and to run.

In March you still wont have job security, you will only have been working for a new company for a short time. That isnt job security IMO.

Its your money to do as you please, but I thought you would have learnt lessons.

Yes I have...that's why I'm not going for a brand new one again. Ok well I'll need a nice paying secure job to save up for it anyway and maintain it.

Like I say the astra is currently being sorted out. But is there any harm in looking around to see what to consider as a next car?

So you've got a £15k outstanding loan on an Astra + No job which means you'll be returning the car to the dealer and take a huge hit on the depreciation of the car. And you want to buy an Impreza, a car on which insurance alone would cost you upwards of £2k minimum.

I realise it might not be my place to tell you what to do, but you seriously need to sort out your priorities mate. These cars have high insurance premiums for a reason, as you've been only driving for about a year, you'll have nowhere near the skill needed to control these if you find yourself in a tricky situation.

Heck, I've been driving 8 years now and I still don't feel comfortable getting in my mate's Scooby or my bosses M3 when given the chance (though I am kind of a wuss when it comes to fast cars :p)

IMO its really not worth paying £3K insurance on an Impreza.

Unless your absolutely positvely loaded, no "normal" road car is worth paying that amount of money in insurance. Exotica maybe but no a UK Turbo Impreza.

Get quotes on a Sport if you must have an Impreza. A friend has a black sport special and its a great car IMO.

Don't laugh, but I'm actually looking at buying a lowly GL 1.6 for my GF and doing the turbo look to it.
