i have gone into the bios and put it to overclock at 30% and it posted fine at 2.7ghz (29 idel)(41under load) so what do i need to change. i have downloaded all the software that is in the noobs bit :)

Remind me, what multiplier does that CPU use?
Is that an auto-overclocker thing you're using in the BIOS? If so, i'd stay away from that and do it manually. You'd be best off setting your vCore to something like 1.375 and disabling CPU and PCI spread spectrum, C1E and Intel Speedstep. And then increase your FSB to 300 and see if it boots OK.

What are you using to measure your CPU temperature? May i suggest Core Temp and SpeedFan; they've been most reliable for me in the past.
Also, what kind of cooling are you using for your CPU?

i have put it to 380x8 just over 3ghz runs fine. on default volts. but as soon as i hit 400 it will not post is my ram giving up?

default is 8x

As far as I've been told, when you up your frequency and get no POST, you should try upping the vCore by small increments at a time.

Edit: I'm new to this though, so wait for second opinion :)

i have taken some screen shots of what i have done with no effort.. let me no what to do next

Your mobo is P5W DH with 975X chipset which is not well known for overclocking over 400Mhz FSB. Nothing wrong with your CPU or RAM the northbridge simply reached its limit. That is why people suggest far more overclockable 965P or the new P35 based mobos if you wish to overclock a low multi C2D.

Your RAM shouldn't be giving up, since it's rated to run at 400Mhz. You'll need to up your vCore; try 1.4v to see if it's stable. Besides, due to the weird RAM divider you're using, it's only running at 285Mhz. Try a 1:1 ratio if you want to get more out of your RAM.

It probably wont appear as a divider, as such. On the same menu where you see "Jumperfree Configuration", is there also a sub-menu with RAM settings? If so, you should be able to change the frequency there.
