What to play data discs from?

Hi,

I need to get something that will play data discs (DVD) for my dad.
Im not sure whether or not the latest DVD players can read dvd data discs. I know the older ones dont

Has to be plug and play also (straight to the TV)

Mainly videos (divx & avi's etc)

I have seen some new DVD players that states it supports this format but was just wandering if they read them and play them?

ah yes there are loads of players around that do that, anything marked as DIVX compatible should handle MPEG4 files.

Even better are network players that can play from disc but also stream from your pc via network.

Theres a decent Samsung thats kinda cheap - think I'll get him that one
