PSU seems like it might have died. Currently a Corsair HX520.

Very out of touch. What's the best option to replace it with?

Doesn't need any more umph. System can be seen: here

Doesn't need to be anything too fancy!

Thanks!

Funnily enough, that was going to be my next question! Is the graphics card the 'weak point' of this system? If so, what would be a sensible, not too expensive upgrade? Would that then affect the PSU recommendation?

Thanks

Anything like a GTX560 or the slightly more ti version, or the ATI 6850 will be a massive upgrade.

The PSU I suggested will still be plenty for any of those cards.

To be honest, if you're looking at fiddling with Graphics configs, I'd say maybe the OCZ 850W around about £96 or something.

With 850W I doubt you'd have to worry even if you went after an SLI setup

Was the 520 still in warranty?

Should be - 5 years i think - but I'm not sure that it is knackered, it passes the paper clip test. So, thought I'd get a new PSU, try it, and if that cures the problem, get the 520 warranty repaired / replaced and either use it for something else or sell it.

A ozc zs 550?

Did you choose this because it's on offer - or is that just a happy coincidence?!

What's the difference between this and say, OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w Silent SLI Certified Modular Power Supply - other than 50W!

The ModXStream is modular cabling, only has a single 6pin PCI-E, its made by Highpower.

The OCZ ZS 550W is a newer design and has a 6pin and 8pin (6+2) PCI-E, its made by Sirfa.

Its a good price currently, you did say it didn't need to be too fancy or have that much umph, but its enough for most single graphics cards except GTX580 etc.

OK - thanks for that. I think I might swap the PSU first, see if that solves the problem and then look at graphics cards.

I should have known coming back to this forum would cost me money!
