What to replace at GTX 580 with?

what I was saying - a well overclocked 7950 or 7970 or 680 should be - if overclocked - a 35-40% boost over your 580 ?

not much point in waiting 8 months extra

Gonna go for the B grade 7970 as you say 20 quid extra is nothing for the extra performance. My first ever AMD card....wonder how things will go.

I had a 7950, and I had a few problems with it, maybe it was specific to the game I was playing, I don't know. I ended up RMA'ing it and then I sold the replacement card. I then bought a GTX 670 instead, and it's been fine. In terms of what I can tell, there's little difference between the two at stock. I think I had better benchmark scores with the 7950 but I never really overclocked the 670 too much. I was more than happy with the 7950, I don't know what the issues were caused by, some say drivers, some say the game, but all I know is the 670 hasn't let me down yet.

Thanks for the info. :)

How much difference is there between the 7950 and 7970? I'll probably get either one once prices go down a bit, not in any rush at the moment to buy yet.

Around 5%, give or take. That's a clock for clock difference as opposed to an out of the box comparison.

5 (even 10)% is not a lot of extra FPS.
