So someone I met before sent me an email out of the blue and cc'ed a 3rd person saying something along the lines of "they are looking for a php developer and this chap expressed interest etc.".

As a developer, what are you supposed to do? Keep radio silence or say something like hi to that 3rd person?

I work full time for a company, and this would likely be something "on the side" if anything. But its something I am considering getting into. What's the "done thing" for those with experience in startups and web development?

Generally don't talk to "business types" much :p

I meant it in a way are you meant to say anything specific like some past experience or just a hi or what?

you say something like

Hi so and so,
Nice to meat you. As burger was saying I'm a PHP developer looking to add a side of juicy development experience. If you could tell me a little about the sesame roll I'd be more than happy to give you an estimate on the time and costs for a complete happy meal.

Ronald McDonald

Ps would you like fries with that?

(you might want to change that slightly though)

Dear blahblahblah,

In response to this email, I would like to express my interest in the position... I am blah blah, I have x many years experience programming in php, including these projects which involved x, y and z which I feel gives me relevant experience in coding for pornography websites, blah blah.

Yours sincerely,
blah

Never had done any contracting before so never seen an email introduction being sent around before. Anyway cheers for that.

*Before any more socially awkward penguin posts, its not really social, its work related :p*

Funnily enough last night I got put in the exact same situation. Some IT company needs some freelance phone apps made, and I got CC'ed into a email introducing me. I don't know whether to reply or just wait for him to ring me haha.
