What to spend 3k on? w210 E200?

Need something big and comfy to waft family/friends around in.

I've been eyeing up a low mileage w210 E200? Anything to look out for on these?

Then I've been looking at old Lexuses too and I'm not sure what to look for on those too.

The confusing thing is I have a friend who's into his old mercs and another who's into lexuses I can get either to come buy a car with me but it's gotta be one or the other.

So merc or lexus? Personally I would assume it would cost less fixing/owning a popular old mercedes than a rarer old lexus?

I can't claim to know much about it but aren't all Mercedes of the era you'd be buying known to quite susceptible to rust? Maybe if you can get one that is clean it'll be fine but I'd guess that there's still quite a lot of potential to throw up fairly sizeable bills even if they are more common than a Lexus.

Avoid a W210, its from the era Mercedes quality nosedived, from what I've read on MB forums they all rust.

I don't like Jap as a rule but I'd have one in a heartbeat over a W210!

Whilst not as big as the Merc, I'd consider a large Volvo estate.

Your mates aren't much use either, I wouldn't help somebody buy a car only if it's a BMW because I have one, that's absurd.
