Hey,
Off to Tokyo in May but stuck at what to take with me lens wise :s
I will be packing my D7000 and have the following lenses:

35mm f/1.8G DX
50mm f/1.4G
105mm f/2.8G
70-200mm f/2.8
18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G

I was thinking of taking the 35mm and the 18-200mm (the 105 and 70-200 are a bit to bulky).
However I'm tempted to trade in the 18-200mm for a 18-140mm to get the better optics. Another option is to grab a Sony A6000 (with the 16-50 kit).

Maybe pick up a Nikon 28mm f/2.8D for the wide angels and just use primes?

Anyone been to Tokyo to aid in what to take? :)

Surely on the D7000, the 28mm wouldn't be wide at all? I think you'd value the versatility of the 18-200/18-140 over taking a load of primes. That plus one prime for bokeh shots should be enough I would've thought.

I went couple months ago for work, didn't even take a camera...LOL 18-to something as a walk about, if your a no DOF person a fast wide prime. It can get very crowded on the trains so you don't want to be lugging a large heavy bag about...... Lots of money, some great prices on used kit in the shops ;)

Thanks all, yeah completely forgot about the crop bit, the 28 wouldn't be helpful :)
I will be taking my Think Tank Retrospective 20 bag so carrying the camera and 2 lenses will be fine,
I think I will go for the 18-140mm, seems to be a lot sharper then my 18-200. The extra reach is nice but would rather sharper images

Good shout, they are so small can easily tuck them way. Tempted to pick up a gorilla pod also for any long exposure's I need to do

Enjoy yourself. I've been to the Kansai/Osaka/Kyoto region three times and I've been overwhelmed every time; fantastic country.

I would get the 16-85MM. 24MM(equivalent) is reasonably wider than 28MM(equivalent) and there will be some nice scenary in the areas you are going to.

I would also take the 50MM as a portrait/low light tele lens.
