What to try next?

Had an issue today, lets start in order.

1) House fuse blows (pc and monitor were plugged in but off)
2) Turn pc on boots up fine (as normal) but no display
3) check connections, still no display
4) panic like hell.

5) try it on tv downstairs DVI to hmdi (pc to tv) doesn't work but hmdi to hmdi does work. Yay. Browse the net for a bit.
6) calm down.
7) try again on monitor with the same hmdi to hmdi cable as used downstairs, still no display.

It seems the pc works fine. It all spins up bit just no displaying on my monitor upstairs.

Is my monitors hmdi port busted? And how? Still a bit confused.

Does your monitor have a DVI or VGA port?

Have you got anything else to plug into the monitor? DVD player, Console, Laptop, etc?

VGA but can't find my cable, does the situation point to any other fault? Or do you think its monitor related?

I have a 360. Will give it a go tomorrow.
EDIT: not got a spare HDMI to HDMI lead just now.. Will need to but one. Nicked the one from the rents telly before.

If it does`nt work with the VGA, then it is more likely the monitor.
Is it still under warranty, say yes.

Yes.

(it actually is too)

Extended warranty pays off again.

The monitor is actually a tv (sorry was only way to express it in op with confusion) and the tv aspect works fine.

When I switch to hmdi it appears with no display..

So, the TV works fine, but you get nothing when you connect your PC via HDMI. Do you get a message saying "no signal detected"?
But it works via HDMI on the TV downstairs. So, if the VGA does`nt work, then I think it will be safe to say, the problem is the TV upstairs.

Idle mate, and others.

Its now working Via VGA upstairs, whch is odd, though my Xbox doesn't work via the HDMI on this TV, so can i assume its the HDMI port?

I have tried two cable from my pc to my TV

I assume you only have one HDMI port, so by your own diagnosis, it would seem the port on your TV is at fault. Good job you have the warranty.

So, it`s RMA time, especially as you need it for your Xbox.

I sure do..

Good to know i've not missed anything.

This is the second time a 5-year warranty has paid off, well chuffed (as much as i can be at 1600 x 900

)

My 360 is 50% console, 40% dust and 10% graffiti.

Hope you don't have any hassle getting them to change it for you.

If you have to return it via post / couriers then check the T&Cs, a lot of couriers that provide parcel insurance as standard don't cover monitors against damage when handling them.

T'was from a non-purple High street store, only 15 miles away so i will be taking it back to the shop.

Not too far then.

Some of those stores can be a right PITA when trying to return faulty stuff, I had to do similar with a Laptop a few months back.

Yeah ive heard horror stories too..

But when i returned my previous TV i had no problem, he just listed the fault and sent it away. Fingers crossed for this time.

Nothing, I lived there for about 20yrs.
