My computer has been struggling a lot in games and need advice on where the problem likely is or if everything?

Monitor resolution: 2560 x 1600
GPU: Crossfire 7970's 3gb Mild overclock
Processor: AMD FX 8350 @4.7ghz
4x SSD's
Ram: 16gb
Windows 10 64bit

My hunch is the GPU's only having 3gb memory are struggling at this resolution but could it also be the AMD processor??

Which games are you having a problem with?

CPU intensive games which aren't capable of using multiple cores will be held back by the CPU, but with that resolution you might be maxing the VRAM.

What motherboard/CPU cooler are you using? It's quite possible you're maxing out the VRAM, but I'd also check to see if your CPU is throttling down for some reason. The FX-8 series are known for hammering the motherbaord VRMs.

Asus Crosshair V Formula motherbored. And the cpu and gpu's are custom watercooled.

Definitely something not right there. You could try running a monitoring software in the background and record what's happening to the system while you play.

Somethings definitely wrong. That system should be fine with those games. Get a monitoring program going and see if anything unusual is happening.

What should I monitor? I use hwmonitor to keep an eye on temps which all seem fine when gaming.

My pc problems gradually got worse and worse and then one of my 7970's died. So I ordered a new D5 water pump and a MSI GeForce GTX 1070 SEA HAWK EK X 8192MB and wow I have a gaming rig again. I think the problem must have been a dieing water pump making temps high and a 7970 gpu that has been dodgy since buying it with coil whine etc.
At least I don't need to replace the processor for now as I'm maxing out all my games like Doom and Plants vs Zombies 2 with ease even with this 30" monitor. And the temperatures are brilliant :D
