What to upgrade to from a 9800GTX+?

Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on whether an upgrade on my fairly long in the tooth system is worthwhile in relation to getting a new GPU? I currently run a Q6600 which is sat at 3.2Ghz on an Asus P5K with 4Gb RAM. The GPU is a Palit 9800GTX+.

Was thinking of grabbing a used GPU from the MM here but I'm not sure what to go for and also I'm not sure if it is worthwhile doing so given that my old Q6600 could be a bit of a bottleneck? Was thinking of a GTX460 or 470 or perhaps a 5850 or 5870? Would this be pointless? I game on an LG 22" LED monitor at 1920x1080 and would like a little more 'oomph' in graphical power if possible. Will replacing my old 9800GTX+ help? It runs the likes of Arma 3 at medium settings very well at the moment but I looked at THIS website and the figures there would have you believe that the jump from my current card to one of the prospective ones I mentioned above would be worthwhile?

Any advice appreciated. Ta. :)

A 5870 would be a nice match for that CPU if you could get one. I had one a few years back and it wasn't too bad at all. Played Witcher 2 :D

How do the likes of the 5870's compare with the Nvidia 470? Sorry, I'm a bit out of the loop on tech details and the progress over the last few years regarding GPU's. I'm by no means an Nvidia fanboi but the last few cards I've had have been GeForce models. I've had one ATi card and it was a 1900XT, worked very well but died on me suddenly.

A HD7850 is faster than a 5870, worth checking the prices out. They also overclock by a lot. I bought an MSI one from here when it was the cheapest version and it clocked from 900-1100 with ease.

5870 are underrated was great card for its time, ran bf3 and even bf4 on mine until i upgraded that rig a few weeks ago,, mine sat on a core of 990 most its 3-4 year life span
