What to upgrade?

Hi,

My current spec is:

E2180 @ 3ghz
IP-35 Pro Motherboard
4Gb RAM
8800GT

I am looking at either upgrading my processor to a Q6600/E8400/E8500 or upgrading my graphics card to a 4850 or maybe a 4870 at a push.

I am unsure if upgraded graphics card would be held back by the slowish CPU or am I better to upgrade the CPU and wait for a new graphics card to come around in a 2009.

Any advice would be great

what do you use computer for?

if for gaming, what resolution do you play at?

Gaming 1680 x 1050

yep then gfx card is probably where you will see biggest improvement either get a gtx 260maxcore or 4870 1gb, both are similar in performance imo, just choose whichever make you prefer. although a hd4870 512mb should be more than enough and will be cheaper, just depends on your budget

Just to add, your current CPU at 3Ghz isn't exactly slow and won't hold up a 4870 / 260 by a noticable amount unless you 'play' benchmarks or game at low resolution to get frame rates beyond the capability of most monitors.
