Hi everyone.

I have had my PC for a while now and I feel it is time to upgrade a bit.

I still have the PC in my sig and was looking at just changing the motherboard and processor for something like this, Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - Devil's Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle.

Will the RAM I have be ok on that motherboard?
Would I be better going for something else?
I dont use it for gaming but do a bit of photo, music and video editing.
I dont really want to go over £400 if I dont have to and I do have a SSD that I can use as well.
What would you guys recommend?

what you have linked it fine for your needed, if you could manage with an i5 you could save £50 but i would go I7 for the sake of £50

all your old parts will work fine with the new set up

It will be a big difference. The 4790k is a great choice. I'd look at getting another 8gb RAM too (up to 16gb) as if your doing heavy editing it will eat it all..

ok cool.

I thought that the RAM had to be matched though and I cant get the same RAM that I already have. Would 16gb make that much difference? If so I would have to get 16gb of RAM as well then.

Well, it depends on what editing/rendering you do.

Next time you are doing editing/rendering take a look at your RAM use age.. If it does hit 8gb then you need more RAM.
