Hey, I want to upgrade my PC soon but not entirely sure what to upgrade.

atm and using

[email protected]
msi gtx970@1512/2103
hyperx grey 4x2gb @800mhz cl9
Gigabyte G1 Sniper z87
Samsung ssd840 evo + WD 300gb
xonar dgx
Corsair cx500
HAF922
corsair H100

Initially I was considering getting the gigabyte gaming7 z97 board and get 16gb of hyperx beast 2400 and corsair ax860i, but then I started wondering if I really need that, would just getting 2nd 970 be better of performance wise? would what I have right now be enough to max 2560x1080p?

I cant see anything worthy of changing.

Do you have a nice monitor, keyboard+mouse.

Your setup as it stands is fully capable of gaming at 2560x1080P.

A bigger HDD maybe?

What is the main use of your system? Tbh regarding the motherboard change, theres not much point in doing so unless you require the new features on Z97, or in future move to a broadwell cpu. If you did move to sli 970, a new psu would be required as the cx500 wont cut it with that spec.

Indeed, your system is fine as is.

As Setter mentioned if do fancy a 2nd card then a new PSU will be in order, otherwise put the cash to one side and upgrade next year :p

atm using steelseries 6gv2 dont think overclockers sale it anymore, and logitech g600 used to mmo a lot.

+24" tn 1080p, want to get the LG Flatron 29UB65-P, wanted to get the one with usb inbuilt but those are gone afaik.

also was thinking of 2x3tb wd blacks raid for storage and keep ssd as boot.

Just do that then.

Monitor and more storage.

Blacks are nice, but the Barracudas/Toshibas/WD reds all still decent and cheaper.

I would get a 144 hertz monitor if you don't have one and I would get some headphones and soundcard. The logitech headsets are poor. I had a logitech G930 and it was awful compared to the headphones I use now. Beyerdynamic DT770's.

mostly gaming + watching movies along with some IT work but most of that I do remotely.

the g1sniper was a very value orientated board I think it was around £60 or so, granted doesn't come with IGP etc. haven't considered broadwell yet, quite happy with hasswell.

and i mentioned getting ax860i as this cx500 has been running solid for almost 5 years and it might be time to upgrade/replace it :P

The Z87 G1 Sniper wasn't cheap when it was released, it was around £120-130.

Also it does have IGP via the CPU built-in GFX core and it has HDMI+DP outputs.

as much as I would like to get 120/144hz I know I will not manage maxed gaming at 1080p with 144fps, so I would muuch rather get a sexy IPS widescsreen panel i.e. lg flatron 29ub65. also logitech g600 is a mouse, very good one at that imo. atm am using wavemaster moody 2.1 and gamecom 780 headset, plenty for what I use them for

With regards to psu choice, i would highly reccomend this over any of the current corsair psu's.

A very respectable superflower oem unit, (a very popular brand nowadays) and 10 year warranty. Not too mention a few quid cheaper.

hmmm, had a quick look at reviews of it, its definitely decent, but if I were going to buy a psu I will not replace it for years, i've had my cx500 for 5 years and would have it as long as it will be enough, until it won't. I would still rather pick up platinum digital psu over decent gold rated evga.

also I HATE the wattage rating sticker on the side + semi cheap finish on actual psu that draws too much attention to itself, ik very picky, but just the cx500 or ax860i on the side is bothering me slightly. just one of those ocd things
