Ok im going to start overclocking but although i know ill be doing tweaks and stuff in the bios where will i look to see if an improvement has taken place. I know this may sound stupid. But what is the routine? Do a tweak then run a benchmark like 3dmark and keep comparing? Whats the method to all this? How do you know if your making an improvement? Any software out there i should be looking at getting?

If your overclocking your CPU, superPI is a good indication of how much faster it is running. 3dMark is a general system benchmark, so is good to run at the start and the end to see overall improvement.

Later versions of 3DMark mostly measure GPU performance; SuperPI mostly measures bus and RAM speed - although in both cases you'll see some improvement. The obvious, but highly artificial test, is the Sandra CPU benchmarks. Sciencemark 2 is pretty good.
