What to use to clean an LCD TV screen?

Hi,

We have an LG Scarlet 42" LCD TV and a 16 month old lad. Not a good combo!!. The little guy has in the past few weeks found his feet and now has the ability to stand up and toddle around when he wants to. As a result this now allows him to reach things he couldn't really get a good hold of previously. Like standing up in front of the TV on it's stand and pointing his little sticky fingers at the screen. Which ends up covered in finger marks. We have a Peerless Stabilis bracket holding the TV securely but he's getting the screen in some mess every time he heads over to it and wipes his paws all over it. Longer term I'm looking at moving it from it's current location and mounting it on a wall out of his reach.

In the meantime can somebody in the know give me some info on what to use to safely clean the screen? Preferably something I can purchase tomorrow in town. I've looked at a few places online but I'm not sure what to go for.

Ta muchly for any advice. :)

I find the one they sell in sainsburys that comes in blue and grey packaging to be really good. I took a chance on it when it was was half price and I can't fault it. You wipe it on and dissolves to nothing to seconds. No smears. I've got a plasma now so I only use it on my monitor.

One damp (that's damp, not dripping) microfibre cloth and one dry microfibre cloth is all you need.

One thing I will say is that if you do get hold of any type of spray to clean the tv do not spray it directly onto the TV but onto a cloth and then clean it with the spray on the cloth. I used to do it the other way and it just smears like hell. I actually have 2 15 month old kids messing up my TV so it does get a fair bashing.

Cheers folks. I picked up a pack containing cleaning fluid and lint free wipes from a famous highstreet electrical retailer today. £5 for 100 wipes and a bottle of non alcohol fluid. Will give it ago tomorrow.

Thanks for the help guys.

please stop and think. any chemical may or may not damage you screen i realy recomend the 2 microfibre cloths first was suprised at the way it took 1+ years of muck from my plasma (was a little afraid of mesing up the screen), then told the GF i spend a hour plus cleaning it up, but 5-10 mins rubing the crud of and 2-3 drying and like new.

The problem with the grime I had, the water was just smearing it rather than lifting it. I used a bowl of luke warm water with a smidge of fairy. It was amazing how quickly it lifted and how dirty the cloth and water became.

Funny how it's always a build up and you never really notice it until you clean it.

I use stuff called Klear Screen on my monitor. Use it on a cold screen so it don't evaporate too quickly and a microfiber cloth followed by something like a glasses cleaning cloth. Works a treat for me, cleans with no smears.

Well, cleaned the screen this morning with the kit I got yesterday which consists of 100 lint free cloths and a 200ml bottle of alcohol free cleaner. Worked perfectly, no streaks or smears and no residue left. Took all of 3 or 4 minutes. :)

I use the Phillips screen cleaner http://reviews.argos.co.uk/1493-en_gb/9289334/reviews.htm currently out of stock there but the customer reviews left there on the product speak for themselves and you can easily find it elsewhere to buy. I love the stuff.

Edit:
For those wondering what the phillips cleaner contains I just looked on the bottle. Contents: Water, Anionic tensid and sodium lauryl sulfat.
If that means anything to anyone.
