hi guys

im planning to do my CBT next month

ive never driven a motor cycle before, so don't own any of the gear nor do i own any leathers (im happy to say! :p )

so what do you recommend i wear for it?

Helmet, gloves and jacket will probably be supplied by the center for the CBT though it is worth getting your own. I'd recommend at the bare minimum decent jeans and a pair of boots. Don't do it in a tracksuit and trainers like too many kids seem to be doing these days. It's not safe and your instructor will not be impressed and therefore will not make it easy for you :P

When i did mine, I turned up in jeans, tough shoes, jumper and denim jacket. Got provided with helmet, gloves and a proper jacket. Started raining later during the day so they brought out the waterproofs for us. Scary as hell riding for the first time when it was pouring down. All the best, it's as easy as riding a bicycle.
As for your own gear, when you get your bike, if you get it from a place that does clothes as well, they'll probably give you a nice discount if you get all the stuff together.

I wish they had done that for me. I ended up riding in the pouring rain with regular sodden wool gloves which they provided for me :(

If you're eventually going to get a bike, it might be an idea to buy your own equipment for the CBT.

jeans, jacket and trainers (no boots), they supplied the rest. I did mine in november and it froze my knackers off you should be fine if your doing it in the summer though.

I did my CBT as the first day of a four day course, I so I just wore my proper bike kit I'd bought. A few of the others that were starting their DAS were the same, the kids doing it just for scooters just wore any old crap.

If you're planing on getting a bike afterwards (I assume you are), you may as well buy your kit now and wear it all the way through.

thanks guys! helped a lot

its certainly something i want to get into (biking), but im not 100% sure yet, CBT should make the decision for me.

il just wear some jeans and some strong shoes on the day and see how it pans out

thanks :)

Wear leather chaps :D

Seriously though, as others have said most places will allow you to borrow their kit - other than that wear some jeans and tough boots that you don't mind getting marked (gear change will probably scuff them).

Thankfully I had all my own kit when I started my CBT/DAS, I had bought the helmet, jacket and gloves a few months before (as motivation to book the course), I then picked up trousers and a nice pair of Sidi Vertigo boots at the local George White opening day :)

I was glad of waterproof kit when a sudden rain storm came over on the second day – the other trainee got a good soaking before we were able to pull over and the instructor give him some waterproof overalls.

Scort.

I only had my lid when i did the cbt, the instructors gave jacket and gloves and waterproofs to use. Bought everything for DAS, much nicer go your own stuff

instructors have to give you everything. here are some tips though:

get your own gloves (just some cheapos)- the ones they have are guaranteed to make your hands stink for days.

if you are doing a manual cbt, get some shoes with a sturdy toe- upshifting in trainers is not comfortable if the shifter is stiff (it feels like trying to lift a pointy bit of metal with your bare toe)

Ask the school, would be a good start :D I had most of my own gear by the time I did the CBT but I think there's a lot to be said for borrowing/hiring- judging gear and helmet fit and quality with no benchmark is not esay, a lot of people end up with badly fitting helmets (especially if they buy them from less good shops). The loan gear they had at the school I went to all smelled :D
