Guys

Would it be OK to wear a pair of black trousers and a white shirt with black tie to a funeral?

I don't own a suit and really cant afford to go out and buy one.

Yes, no issue at all. Essentially a suit without the jacket. Hope it's not too hard a day for you and those involved.

Check it is a wear black funeral, just in case.. quite a few now ask people to wear something that had meaning to the person that passed away..

Other than that, as above. Clean tidy and dark pants, coat or jumper even..

So dark navy jumper with white shirt under is ok?

Sorry guys only ever been to 2 funerals and im 39! and they were when I was very young.

Green? Pretty sure that's yellow.

Also, you're 39 and you don't own a suit? I know you've said you can't afford to buy one but they're like £30 from Primark (if things are really tight) and you already have a shirt.

Without even counting work I wear suits loads so I've no idea how you've got away with that.

As long as you dress respectfully (black shoes, trousers and suitable shirt/tie should be fine), then I'm sure the family would rather have you there dressed like that, than not at all.

There's bigger things on people's minds at funerals than what people are wearing. Of the few (thankfully) funerals I've been to, my focus definitely wasn't on people's clothes!
