I am trying to remove (so that I can place a heat shield under them) two of these rubber screws (12 point 24mm). I managed to remove the ones at the front of the engine (they hold the engine cover on) but the ones near the back are fixed! Forge call them triple square? I have a 24 mm socket but it is not deep enough to engage with the bolt. The bolt looks like this:

Do I need a deep 24 mm socket such as the Draper 38019:

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Jesus crows man dear, resize the pics.

Sorry, done :)
Wrong end of stick/

Can't you get a ring spanner on it?

a 24mm spanner will not fit in the engine bay to be able to open it. Hence why Forge suggest a socket I suspect.

Mole grips, they should only be hand tight though if they are rubberised at the tops.

It was the mole grips that cause the rubber to break. VW don't hand tighten anything, everything is tightened so it can never come loose!

Would a ratchet spanner with movable head make things any easier? Otherwise all I can really suggest is a deep socket, some extensions and U joints
