Hi guys,

I've got about £1000 to spend on a new tv for our front room. im after something flat thats at least 32", and is HD. freeview dont matter as we cant pick it up anyway. this is my first time at looking at larger LCD tv's, and i was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on how best to spend the money, what the pros and cons are of my options.

also, has anyone used that buffalo media center that OCUK is selling? is it any good?

Thanks in advance

Gopher

It really depends on whether you want a rear projection system - thats pretty bulky ( compared to LCD tv's) as they have to have lenses in the base to produce the picture. For that kind of money you might be able to find a half decent 42" screen

If however the other half insists on it being as small / narrow as possible then you are looking at a 32" lcd - the two that most people like around here are either the LG 2LXR and the Samsung LE32R41BX ( there is a BDX version also but this has freeview also which you dont require, so you could save about £50)

I myself have gone for the Samsung, but some people much prefer the LG

I have just got the LG FrankJR mentions and am pleased with it, make sure you get one that has all the connection types you will need, I have seen a few around this price range that don't have composite inputs for example.
The LG has HDMI, DVI, Composite, S-video and 2x Scarts (1 RGB), and was rated well in reviews.
SD DVD's look great on it and HD from my Xbox360 is stunning.
It does tend to show the faults in highly compressed broadcasts like some sky broadcasts, but that might be down to my old sky box, either way that isn't a fault of the TV, and there are a range of options that help clean up the picture, and these are independant for each input so you can adjust each to suit :)

Out of the box colours were so OTT it was unreal, but its nice to turn things down to get the correct colour tones rather than have them flat out :)
This can be found in stores for just under £900 and online for about £850 I think.

Well worth putting on the shortlist, you should not have a problem finding one in a local store to go and "audition" as they are in most of the common high street vendors.
