and by guessing it's actually a display port to display port mini adapter.

It's definitely displayport. I don't think it's a displayport to mini displayport adapter though, it just looks like a female displayport socket with nothing else.

There's definitely something at the back there, I too think DP to mini DP.

The back is too small for it to be a mini-DP port at the back.

It will be a connection head that has had its cable removed.

This other one tapers off to the side, and the point it tapers off to is not wide enough to accommodate a mini DP connector.

The other side is a mini display port. I just couldn't recognize a display port.
