What Type Of Monitor Panel Do I Need ?

Hi,

If possible, I would appreciate some advice and possibly recommendations about a monitor upgrade from my old 20" 4:3 aspect monitor to a 24" 16:10 aspect monitor.

What type of monitor panel would suit my needs best for work using quite a lot of white backgrounds and some general internet browsing and miscellaneous applications? The panel will not be used for any colour critical work such as photography or video.

I am a bit confused by which panel technology will meet the above criteria, for example, do I need an IPS panel or will a PVA panel be OK or some other panel technology etc?

My main concern is getting a reasonably uniform white background across the panel or to at least avoid having irritating and noticable loss of uniformity on a white background. I do not really have any budget constraints other than paying for a more costly panel technology if there is a cheaper alternative panel type that will meet my needs. If I need to pay for a more costly panel type then I would set a limit at around £400 for a 24" 16:10 aspect model.

We have reviewed the F2380 on our website. I would recommend this for your needs as it is a cPVA panel with excellent contrast (good whites and deep blacks), viewing angles and adjustability options without costing a fortune.

Because of the excellent contrast and viewing angles it is ideally suited for black text on white backgrounds or general desktop tasks that don't require a high response time. It's 23" and costs around £200.

Thx for the links to the websites, both very informative and useful.

It's a pity that the Samsung F2380 is a 16:9 panel (1920x1080) as it would have been perfect for my needs, however, I really do prefer the 16:10 option for 1920x1200. If Samsung do an equivalent 16:10 panel than that would be perfect.

I will have a look around to see if there is a 16:10 equivalent.

Once again, thx to you both for the useful links and info.
