What upgrade/sidegrade if my R9 390 is faulty?

Had a problem for a while now with my PC randomly crashing, screen will go black, the sound carries on for a few seconds and then cuts to a continuous loud buzzing. I posted about it a while ago and was told RAM or GPU. To be honest I've just ignored it for a while as it doesn't really bother me if it happens during browsing etc... but during gaming is annoying, so I've got two questions.

Is it safe to leave memtest running overnight? That way I can rule out the RAM. If it's the RAM then my next question doesn't really apply but anyway;

What would be an ideal sidegrade or upgrade at this point, I've only just seen that the RX5** are due out soon, I'm guessing they are just an update of the RX4** like the R9 290 to R9 390? I'll be sticking around the RX480/GTX1060 price range as the 1070 is a bit too much.
However I would like to change to a full water loop eventually, I know I could probably go for an air cooled 1070 at that stage but I'd like a silent running water loop, and if I went 1070 I'd also end up buying a more expensive monitor to match it.

It's also just occurred to me while writing this that the R9 390 is still under warranty, what would happen at this point since they are no longer on sale?

^ 1080 way out of budget and would prefer something a bit newer than a 980ti. What's the current state of RX480 vs 1060? I've not been keeping up with things but I remember a lot of talk about the RX480 being the one to go for as it will get better over time with new drivers, did they sort out the power issue on them?

3 passes on memtest with no faults, I'll give it a few more but the next step is to take the GPU out and run it with the onboard graphics for a few days to see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't them I'll RMA the R9 390 but I quite like the look of these RX 580's although the price could do with being a bit lower.

Been running without the 390 for a couple of days now and as expected the problem has gone. Going to give it a few more days just to make sure.

What happens when you RMA a GPU? What happens if they test it and find nothing wrong? What are they likely to send as a replacement if there is something wrong?

Been running without the R9 390 for two weeks now, and also ran memtest a couple more times, and have had no errors, no random black screens or any other problems, so I'm certain that it was the R9 390 causing problems.

I bought it from OCUK, do I speak to OCUK about RMA (if so, who/where?) or do I go direct to XFX?
