Here are my specs

AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550
Asus M4A785TD-M Evo AMD 785G
Corsair Value Select 2GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
8500 GT
300w psu

what upgrade would boost my pc gaming performance the most?. (£220 budget)
 
hd 5770 120ish,
Corsair 400 watt psu 40 quid i think
other 50 odd quid on another 2gb of ram.

This should fit nicely into your upgrade and be a good boost from the 8500gt
 
I would suggest graphics card upgrade, though youll more than likely need upgrade your PSU aswell
