What upgrades may I need?

Hello,

I might be looking into getting some upgrades on my current rig in the next month and if you wouldn't mind I would like some suggestions from the users on Overclockers. You helped me decide last time out on the monitor front, very helpful and made my decision all the much easier.

I have been running into a little bit of trouble lately on games such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Metro Redux, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Far Cry 4 with FPS driven performance issues. I like to play my games at 60 FPS, as I threw hundreds away the year or two before on upgrades I was naive to think I could get the best performance and 60 FPS on just about any game. I'm having to tweak the in-game video settings to get a better performance as it's dipping below 60 FPS on some games.

This is my current system.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate
Monitor: Dell U27 2560x1440
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB Memory
CPU: Intel Core I7-3770 3.40 GHZ
RAM: 16 GB 2x8GB 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77X-UP4
Power-Supply: XFX 900W
SSD: 250GB Samsung

Stock settings.

In the near future I'm looking to venture into Youtube or Twitch so a strong system is a must.

Advice/suggestions would be helpful. What may I need to upgrade? Budget is not a problem as long as the price on a singular part is not too excessive.

Easy solution: A second 290.

290 Xfire should demolish 1440p.

Your system is already SRT up (big enough PSU and appropriate motherboard) to accept a second with no other upgrades.

Don't forget to OC the GPU's , it's free performance for very little work although watch temps if going multi gpu.

Would I be best getting another 290 or pushing for a single 290x 8192MB card. Seems to be a fair price on Overclockers, or even a 295x. Would it be worth paying the extra for a single card?

When I bought the 290 I stupidly saved myself £20 to get the 290 instead of the X edition. Never planned to overclock at the time.

I presume the rest of my system is still good for a while then? CPU/Motherboard/RAM will last me a while yet?

Anyone?

Thread has slipped down the list.

The Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 8192MB is £329.99 on Overclockers. I may be getting a little greedy here but I could even push for 2 of these at that price, or just get the one for now and see how it runs.

I would like to know what the best course of action here is though. Money isn't really a big stumbling block on that price.

your current system is fine, I would stick with that.

either get a single GPU, if you want AMD wait for their next line of cards to come out or if you have the funds get a 970 or 980.

cpu, motherboard and ram are fine for the time being, if you must\want to upgrade then wait for the next gen intel cpus to come out
