i just set up my sky broadband with the sagem router, my xp dektop pc and the vista laptop can use the internet, i have run the network wizard on my xp pc, both machines are on the same workgroup, in my 'workgroup computers i see both machines, but when i try and access the laptop it asks for a username and password, this laptop belongs to my g/f and she has no idea what the password and username is, could this be the same as the one she used to use to login to windows vista or is it another name and passwords ?

this should be easy but im puzzled.

cheers

HI
Both PC's must have the Same user on BOTH PC's.
IE on your PC User1 - Your GF PC must also have a USER1 account, have both PC's as Admin will only work if Both ADMIN accounts have the same Password. Its due to it being a Workgroup setup and there is nothing to verify your account agaist.

Aslong as the username isnt greyed out when trying to access her laptop and she is an administrator on the laptop aswell, then just enter her user and pass... Either that or the Administrator account and password for that laptop.

we have both set our username to 'user1' and set our passwords to 'hello' both accounts are admin's yet i still get a pop up box when i try to browse her pc asking for a name and password, i entered 'user1' and 'hello' and still no joy.

Make sure that File Sharing is enabled on the Vista Machine also

Rob

thanks rob, i checked and the file and prineter sharing is on but both of them have 'on password protected' and there isnt an option to switch to just on.

EDIT - just found the option to turn off password protection, all working now, im a happy bunny, many thanks for the help
