Just out of interest, which of these would be your preferred choice :

Mercedes C63 AMG

0-60mph - 4.3 seconds
30-70mph through the gears - 3.5 seconds
0-100mph - 9.5 seconds
Standing 1/4 Mile - 12.5 @ 117mph

Audi RS4

0-60 - 4.7 seconds
30-70mph through the gears - 3.9 seconds
0-100mph - 11.1 seconds
Standing 1/4 Mile - 13.2 @ 109mph

BMW M3 Saloon

0-60 - 4.6 seconds
30-70mph through the gears - 3.9 seconds
0-100mph - 10.0 seconds
Standing 1/4 mile - 12.8 @ 114mph

Lexus ISF

30-70mph through the gears - 3.9 seconds
0-100 - 10.8 seconds

Vauxhall VXR8

Jaguar XFR

Chrysler 300C SRT

No comparable figures for the last 3 as the first 4 were all taken from http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/grouptests/219645/mercedes_c63_amg.html

you can choose the E63 if you want. I just checked the XFR in there because i thought somebody wight want the jag option :D

M3 Saloon.

Why is the RS4 there though - it's a previous gen car which doesnt compete with any of the other cars mentioned.

because you can still buy one ? :p

That and it was in the Auto Express Group Test which i got the figures from, and in that Top Gear Video in Spain so thought i'd thrown it in any way.

My biggest problem with the VXR8 amongst this crowd is its lack of performance

0-60 - 4.9 seconds
30-70mph through the gears - 4.4 seconds
0-100mph - 12.1 seconds

Even when supercharged it still struggles to break under 13 seconds for the 1/4 mile. Think Evo timed the Bathurst S at 12.9 seconds or there abouts.

The M3 and C63 both do faster than this stock with over 100hp less.

M3 vs Monaro v8

your posting a video of an E46 M3 CSL and a Monaro VXR at VMAX in this thread why exactly ?

A) those are coupes

and

B) its VMAX - the aim of the game is to record the highest top speed. Its not a race. Different people have different techniques for getting the best start up the brunters runway. Hence why theres no wheelspin at the start of the video as they are taking it slowly. Extra speed built up on the straight will just have be rubbed off for the first bend. As that video fails to show what speed they actually recorded, its a completely pointless video !

if anything i thought people would be criticising it for it only being available in old fashioned Torque Converter Auto Box rather than its looks.

I honestly wouldn't particularly want any of those cars (ignoring the resale value!), i would most certainly never buy any of them.

I'd take the proper Mercedes option which would be in budget if you are talking new examples of the above. That being a used S63.

this is a read about saloons, not boats ;) ;)

Getting in an MX5 must be like riding one of these for you Jez.:D

Surely you could have the Bathurst S for the same cash as the others? Id have that and change.:D

If not it would be the Jag for me.

What puts me off is

A) the low rent interior when compared others mentioned here

and

B) its not that fast - it has traction issues. Even with 570bhp and a supercharger, its not quicker down the 1/4 mile than the M3, let alone the C63.

C63 on the other hand, is only restricted to 450bhp by virtue of the fact the ECU restricts the maximum available throttle to about 80 % or something. Change that back to 100 % and you get the full 520bhp the engine develops in the E63. Go for a stage 2 tune with involves a full exhaust including headers and a remap and you're developing 550bhp and will pull the 1/4 mile in 11.xx seconds
