what virtualisiation software for desktop

what does everyone use?
I've been trying out virtualbox (as it's free) and was just wondering if there are better free options out there for running on a vista x86 system for demonstrating different OSs in a VM (server2003/XP/vista/server2008 etc)
ideas?

after testing VirtualPC, Virtualbox and VMWare (spent about 3 days doing it) in work to see which would suit me best

i decided on Virtualbox, the other two seemed slower and heavier on system resources

VMware has the best networking features, but virtualbox does everything i need it to, so i'm using that

I have just started using Virtual Box at home it seems to do the job nicely. Vista x64 host x64 Virtual Box running XP Pro SP3, I don't think I have ever seen XP Pro run so fast

virtualbox > *.

i don't know what vmware were thinking when they released vmware server 2. it's so damned horrible to use. i can't recommend vmware anymore. (unless your host machine is xp then vmware server 1 is fine)

and ignore any fool who says use virtual pc. that's so bad i can't actually believe micrsoft made it.

MS didnt make it.

It was made by another company about 8 years ago. MS just bought it, braned it, and stuck it out there. They didnt even change anything.

Can virtualbox give the virtual machine more than one physical core? I have been messing around with linux on virtualbox from within windows, and much prefer it as a program to vmware server. However, vmware lets you give the vm two cores of the processor, but as far as i can work out, virtualbox does not have this option?
