pretty much always used onboard sound [shuttles], but my msi g965 doesn't have optical or coax outputs so looking for a cheap solution that will work in vista for watching HD content

views opinions please but cost is a factor :)

Vista sound is a nightmare. You'd probably get a better response asking in the Sound City forum. I have 3 'quality' soundcards and none of them work properly under Vista.

It's partly to do with the way Vista handles sound and partly to do with manufacturers being slow to work around the way Vista handles sound.

Theres not a lot of choice tbh with vista at the mo, M-audio still have no vista drivers, im running a old SB Audigy , it works but theres a noticeable loss in sound quality over xp.

Is this what you're after?

It's gigabyte part no. A-12CR1-1SPAUD-21 so if you google on that or just do a search in motherboard accessories you'll come up with an obvious UK source for under £5.

I do think OcUK should carry all these smaller items, but I guess there's no profit in it, maybe?

that thing above looks liek it could do the job

if not my old HDA X-mystique had vista drivers and optical out worked a treat with the beta 2 that was out. I know there are newer drivers that also work with the explosion

precisely what I'm looking for, running 6 channel direct atm, which sounds a bit muffled compared to the optical on my Shuttle :(

the MSI is alc883 as opposed to the 882 on my Shuttle

cheers
