What vmware do you use and recommend?

Microsoft one is rubbish doesn't load all of my Linux distros keeps freezing when it loads up the ISO at the start.

VMware is a product.
Do you mean 'what virtualisation tool do you use? Personally, I use VMware Server 1.0.4.

Either way, this belongs in one of the software forums.

VMWare Server ESXi is also free now, which requires no Host OS to install on top of.

Mate one up with an OPENFiler box to act as a iSCSI SAN and you get round the hardware issues of ESXi in terms of limited Hardware Support. Get an Intel Pro1000 NIC card to sort out the networking.

The only reason I would run VMWare Server now rather then ESXi is if looking to use the machine for just the odd virtual machine on a desktop rather then an out and out Server with VM's running.

And is in no way shape or form as good (or even in the same league) as VMWare server.

it's not as good for a whole big environment, but for testing 3 or 4 vm's it's perfect, i use it in work for testing, can't fault it

small
fastest i've used
easy

virtualbox is well worth a look

-i've found that many linux distro's simply fail to work with any vm....

i do agree with you though, vmware no doubt has more features, but vbox is far from the tosh ms pooped out :p

VMware ESX Server 3.5.0

Win!

OT I know but has anybody ever recovered from a boot failure on ESX 3.5? Recently rebooted out ESX server which failed to boot, eventually booted the system off the ESX install CD, prompted me to recover so selected it and then nadda, ESX comes up in limp mode so you can't do anything.
