If you were a lady who liked small cars what warm hatch would you get for say 5k?

Nothing too fast and silly on the running costs, just something, dare I say it, nippy :P

Cars I can think of are Polo GTi, 206 GTi, Yaris T-Sport.

206 maybe not so great for reliability, and the other two maybe a bit pricier on servicing, but what else is there for the money?

Also nothing with too high milage and say MY2000 or newer (these aren't my own criteria!).

And no 172s please :P

SEAT Ibiza 1.8T Cupra too quick?

Possibly, I know it's not exotica or anything but the running costs as well might be too much.

Plus she's just shaken her head at that :)

Decent reasonable argument :p The running costs shouldn't be too much, its only the 150BHP tuned version from the Golf GTI MK4. The rest of the car is pretty much normal priced consumables.

And an unreasonable argument considering you have the Polo GTI in there which is the same car with a worse engine ;)

The Yaris T-Sport is supposed to be a good drive. I did a bit of digging when my gf had the chance to buy an ex-lease one for a good price. Couldn't really find any negatives IIRC.

The GTi was my suggestion, she's not too keen on that either :P She has to like how it looks, shockingly she said the Polo looked a bit too chavvy!

Figures lol.

Hows about a Puma 1.7, they are suitably girly ;)

ooh forgot about that, seen two on our way to work two days running and I keep saying that'd be a good car to get, will have a poke about now.

She really likes the Fabia VRs, but typically the one she wants is 10k!

Probably find the puma comes in easily under budget these days, but its got to be worth a punt, they drive really well according to what i've read, and they are non too slow either in 1.7 form.

The fabia surprises me seeing as its not a millon miles in looks from the Ibiza and Polo  She does know they are practically the same car right :p

She is a girl, first comes the looks, then the colour.

Engine, BHP etc come a lot further down the list, down below aircon etc. :D

Oh don't worry, I understand that. What I can't fathom is who thinks the Fabia looks better than the Polo or Ibiza :/ The Fabia has a piano up front as a grille  Ugly Ugly thing.

Plenty of astra's at this price! Including coupe's in a range from 1.8 to 2.2 and a 2.0T engine (although unlikely for this money)..
You can easily get a nicely irmschered 00-02 Sxi/Sri for this money.

Ford fiesta Zetec-S?

Not realllly in the same size league as the ibiza or polo but still is quick and has nice features, and people seem to love them!

EDIT: Or possibly SportKA?

Smaller cars only, nothing too old/likely to break down. Tis for a woman to use as a day to day car.

What can I say, she likes small things :)
