i remember a poster on here posting a link to a company where you could let them have your car details/mileage etc and they'd let you know what the best oil would be.

any ideas? oil man or something? (search didnt help)

mine does lose some oil, so i brought some cheap carlube stuff as a top up oil between full changes.

i swear the carlube stuff evapourates, hence i want to know exactly what i should be putting in there.

i bet itll be £40 a litre stuff tho lol

right. VW state that it needs 10w-40 semi.

they have recommended i could use 5w-40 full synth as an alternative. i suppose id get better circulation at start up and it should warm quicker.

any other benefits of going to full synth?

Why not use the proper VW OEM spec stuff?

due to the age/mileage, light mods that have been carried out. i like to drive the car hard from time to time, hence want as much protection as possible

haha, thats the guy that goes round all the car forums talking drivel on how pretty much YOU NEED silkoline. Happens to be his most expensive oil ;) He does put across a good argument though.

Exactly.

Just use VW 505.00 stuff. VW think it's good enough for their engines despite what some sales man says

I'm happy to buy the best oil for my car, and to be honest the price difference between the 5l of Silkolene and other 5l branded oils is negligable... So, I use 5w-40 Pro-S.

TBH I would rather use mediocre oil (in fact what pug recommend for my car) at 10 quid for 5 litres and change it every 5K. I can get almost four changes for the price of the fancy stuff you use. So my engine has always got new(ish) oil inside it and im saving :) Oil in my eyes should be changed every 5k.

...which happens to be about the same price as the best oil in Halfords after you include a club discount

You know it's proper synthetic oil so I always go for it.

I don't have eye oil, but I make sure I change the oil in my car every 5k miles too... the suggested interval being 6k.

And as I said, the difference in price (for me) is negligable.

i will most likely stick to millers if i go for fully synth, but does anyone know why / if fully synth is better than semi?

You have money to waste then if you are changing fully synth every 5k :) Oh sentences do not start with And if your going to be pedantic with my terminology :P
