What was the best Call of Duty game in the entire series?

I want to get a new CoD while I wait for the one in October and I'm curious what people think is the best game in the seriies? I have an Xbox Series X so hopefully it should be compatible.

I've got massively fond memories of Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 3 on Xbox 360 - was the first real thing that got me hooked on online gaming!
Modern Warfare was really good too though!

I'm torn. The full CoD Black Ops III is on sale at the moment and I've always enjoyed the zombie mode. I think I'll go for it.

Call of Duty 2 was my favourite online.
Modern Warfare 2 was my favourite single player.
Wildcard for single player would be Infinite Warfare which was a lot of fun.

I'd probably have to say MW2. COD4 was an excellent game and holds top spot for nostalgia, but as a game I think MW2 was just better.

Either MW2 or Black Ops 1. The multiplayer was just perfect - the maps, guns, progression system, matchmaking, everything.

I haven't actually tried the MW single player, I only bought it for MP. Maybe I should take it for a spin
