What was there before the BIG BANG?

Yep and that's why I have depressing thoughts of:

What's the point in life, sure you can go about, do things but after you die you are no more, and the only way you live on is through offspring and through stories photos and memories. But then when the sun explodes and Earth is destroyed and all these things are gone, and there is nothing.

So what's the ****ing point of anything.

****.

These are thoughts I have mainly when I have my eyes closed whilst trying to go to sleep.

I wouldn't worry about it frankly.

Existence only "exists" within the Universe.

As above I think we have to assume until proven otherwise that there is something beyond this universe and we have absolutely no conception of what it is.

Nothing here is of any real significance, its more a learning experience IMO, I believe that the "soul" stores patterns of our experience here and is what really "feels" emotions, but specific memories die with the body.

next time you close your eyes, imagine our earth been fried by cosmic radiation until it explodes, releasing enormous ammount of energy and atoms in the cosmos, these particles of iron, gold, carbon, hydrogen, in fact everything on the periodic table floating around. Eventually the particles will get caught up in another stars gravitational pull and clump together to start over........ long after earth is gone, its seeds will venture far and wide to start again - its recycling in its sincerest form... on the other hand you can always try and count sheep lol

Some theorists believe the universe is sinusoidal. We're currently in expansion, but the theory states it'll reach a peak before contraction to an ultimate point, that is the bang will happen all over again. Like simple harmonic motion, but on a galactic scale.

so the Doppler effect has kinda proved the universe is expanding like a baloon - which is great, but rewind about a trillion years until it was the size of a pin head, and then a few more years..... there would be nothing...... no elements....no light....no darkness..... no time............nothing........literally nothing.............. it does not compute.

but then how could there be nothing? because even an absence of something is.....well something.

anyone got a spin on this?

Well your probably right there was probably nothing at all. but as humans its impossible for us to think of pure nothing that's why we find it hard to imagine or understand.

Carl Sagan said that we are a way for the universe to know itself. I always liked that as a potential meaning of life.

we are tiny specs on a tiny spec, in a tiny galaxy, which is another tiny spec, amongst about a billion billion other galaxys.
Do people still actually believe that god made the earth??
Isnt about time religous people woke up? and gave all their gold to homeless people?

So how long before Modular's account gets banned for spam? Or at least his post count reset?

Maybe time to consider stopping GD posts counting towards the post count?

Could have been anything, nothing or God or some other form of intelligence, some would debate against the existance of God but imho theres no evidence out there to support any theory before the big bang

Another question that appears in my head when reading all those posts is what is time.

We all as mankind perceive time in the same way. There's now... there was before and there will be after. So assuming that there is always "before", time had to start at some point. But how could it have started if there was no time.

Should have a look for a Horizon episode called 'What Happened Before The Big Bang'. Very good episode.

If you want to save the trouble of finding it, the program concludes, we haven't got a bloody clue lol. Several theories going on right now though that are all very interesting, and all very different.

lol i love it how this kind of subject will eventually find it's way to every social aspect of our lives.

It clearly proves that we are all wondering the same thing at some point. Good sociological conclusion for the end of the day there. ;)
