Help! this is a longshot i know but i love a song that was about in the very late 90s and used to be a song played on radio 1 i think - that dj's used to talk over sometimes. I also heard it now and again on different tv programs.

It was an indian style song with heavy sitar and a great drum beat. It was also instrumental and no vocals to be heard if i remember right.

Anyone got an idea what it was called?

TIA

Doosht

I was thinking Panjabi MC - Mundian to Back Ke, but that had lyrics. Might be an instrumental version.

Only other thing that rings a bell is Fatboy Slim's remix of Cornershop's Brimful of Asha.

i will check out the first one which ive not heard of but its definately not brimful of asha. Brimful of asha was not really an indian sounding song. This was full sitar the lot but a great thumping drum beat thrown in. Great stuff

Dear all, greetings from China, and I can't wait to sign up for an account to share my similar story.

It was back in the mid-1990s, in the southern city of Guangzhou, the 3rd largest city in Mainland China, and also very close to the metropolitan of Hong Kong. The provincial capital where I grew up is always humid, hot, and also advanced compared to other parts in China.

So did the popularity of international music amongst youngsters in the city. My elder brother and I were fond of listening to a radio channel in Hong Kong, called AM681. Yes, I remember quite well their channel. Music was flooded out of the radio speakers. There were no Ads, no programmes, only songs after songs from around the globe all day long. Their business model was add-value service. If we listened to a song we loved and we would like to know the name of the song. We would call a special hotline for inquiry, and the hotline was to charge additional fees to your landline bill.

Of course, my brother and I did not call. We could not afford the bill and not to mention the landline to our home actually was a domestic line, and we could not make international calls.

That was why there were songs we loved but failed to know the names. And this funky sitar Indian song was one of them. We cannot recall most of the songs we listened to together years ago, but the melody of sitar and drumming is so unforgettable and keeps looping in our heads.

Ever since late 1990s when I could surf online, I started to look for the song. When there are music apps in my smartphones, I searched for "sitar" once in a while, hoping my question will one day be answered.

And tonight is THE day.

I was info seeking online as usual and searched for the song. And then I googled and stumbled upon the link to here, where lies the answer to my question asked 25 years ago.

MATHAR. What a magic word.
And the internet is the key to the magic world, linking info and people together.

I sent the song to my brother, and he is sooo excited and amazed.

I am not only writing to share but also to express my gratitude. You guys are fabulous. Thank you for sharing. It was so kind.

Highest appreciation goes to @eddiemcgarrigle

Gotta admit, I was expecting an 'Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table" meme towards the end.

Link does not work so I Google it and thought I was in for a nice pleasant surprise as I kind of remember a song like the description but Jesus that was bad.

Puts me in mind (the moves) of a similar video/song that is catchy from 98.
